Meet Jackie

This month, we are thrilled to shine the spotlight on Jackie of So Bright Home as our Maker of the Month for November 2026!

What began as a creative side hustle during nap time grew into a business, a new career path, and eventually a passion for helping others bring their own ideas to life. From sewing and DIY projects to home renovations, Jackie loves transforming everyday spaces and materials into something beautiful without breaking the bank. Her approach is refreshingly honest: you don't have to have every detail figured out before you begin. Sometimes, you just have to pick up your tools and see where your creativity takes you.

Join us in celebrating Jackie as she inspires us to see the potential in the everyday, create beautiful things with our own two hands, and remember that sometimes the best projects begin before we have it all figured out!

Now it's time for a little Q&A

We've asked Jackie to share her story and some insights she's gained along her DIY journey. Let's get into it!

1. How long have you been creating and how did you get started?

I'm Jackie, a mom of 2 and I've always been creating. I have a Masters of Science in Environmental and Occupational Health however, after my daughter was born, my creativity really came back around. I started sewing items and selling them on Etsy and at local markets in 2015. What started as a side hustle while my daughter napped, I ended up leaving my industrial job to mother my daughter and pursue growing my business, Sew Bright Creations. After 2020, when fabric prices skyrocketed, I shifted from selling my creations to sharing the how-to of my creations. I started sharing sewing patterns, our home renovations and other DIY and craft projects. And that's how So Bright Home was born.

2. What is/are your favorite Surebonder product(s):

Definitely the Full Size Lynn Lilly Glue Gun - I LOVE the colour and the cordless feature and just how well it works. It's such great quality.

Pretty, Practical & Ready to Create

Jackie loves the Full Size Lynn Lilly Glue Gun for its beautiful color, cordless convenience, and dependable quality.

Whether she's tackling a DIY project or adding those final touches to a creative makeover, it gives her the freedom to keep creating without a cord getting in the way. It's a tool that's as fun to use as it is practical, making it a perfect fit for Jackie's creative style!

3. What inspires you to create? What do you love most and what is the hardest part about the creative process?:

I love creating what seems like nothing into something beautiful. It's a way for me to have beautiful things while not spending a fortune. You really appreciate things more when you make them with your own two hands, and I love that feeling. The hardest part for me would be to finish projects without starting more!

4. Who’s another maker you admire and what do you love about their work?:

Christina Dennis from @cozyhomediy. I started following her blog shortly after having my daughter 13 years ago, before I got into sharing my projects online, and Christina provided so much inspiration for me. She also inspired my RV renovation, which has been one of my favourite projects yet. I love that she has practical tips and doable projects.

5. How do you manage and overcome creative burnout?:

Being with friends and getting out of my house are two ways I overcome creative burnout. A fresh new environment and inspirational people are always helpful for me.

6. Have you experienced a fail? How did you work through it and what did you learn?:

Oh yes! I don't think it's possible to DIY without failing at some point. I've just learnt to keep pivoting until it works, and sometimes, when you've financially invested too much, you just have to pull the plug and that's okay too. It's not just a fail, it's a lesson and learning for the next time. I'm determined, or maybe it's stubbornness, but I don't give up easily.

7. What advice would you give to someone who wants to get started?:

Just start! Some people will tell you to plan it all out, but I'm a "wing it" girl. No matter how much you plan, there will be things you will not anticipate, and things will not go according to plan, so just start and figure it out as you go. Will this way take longer? Maybe, probably, but if you never start, then you never know and absolutely never finish.

8. What’s next for you? (a new project? a new technique? a new venture?):

I want to take the winter to slow down and focus on smaller projects that really fill my cup. We are currently saving for our kitchen renovation next spring, which is the last room to renovate in our home, so I want to just really enjoy winter, and slow down and be more creative with my kids instead of just being creative for my job.
