Meet Renee

We are thrilled to kick off our 2026 Maker of the Month series by shining the spotlight on Renee from The DIY Day as our featured Maker for January!

A lifelong creator, Renee’s love for crafting began in childhood with handmade greeting cards and scrapbooks, and has grown into a creative journey that spans journaling, notebook making, paper crafts, and crocheting. Inspired by beautiful patterned papers and the joy of turning simple materials into meaningful, handmade gifts, Renee believes creativity is as much about the process as the finished piece and approaches every project with heart, patience, and curiosity.

Join us in celebrating Renee as she continues to inspire others to start small, craft intentionally, and create what they truly love.

Now it's time for a little Q&A

We've asked Renee to share her story and some insights she's gained along her crafting journey. Let's get into it!

1. How long have you been creating and how did you get started?

Crafting has been part of my life since childhood—back when I was making greeting cards and scrapbooks. Today, I love everything from journaling to notebook making to paper crafting and crocheting.

2. What is/are your favorite Surebonder product(s):

I LOVE the Lynn Lilly Surebonder glue gun. I like that it has its very own heating stand and I have the option to use it corded or cordless with up to two minutes off the charger. And I definitely appreciate the color along with the pink accents.

Renee is a total fan of the Lynn Lilly Special Edition Cordless/Corded Mini Glue Gun with Detail Tip. She loves the convenience of the cordless feature and its beautiful color palette.

3. What inspires you to create? What do you love most and what is the hardest part about the creative process?:

Beautiful patterned papers spark my creativity, and I love transforming simple materials into meaningful gifts for loved ones. The toughest part of the process is definitely picking the colors and patterns.

4. Who’s another maker you admire and what do you love about their work?:

A maker I admire is Francesca Stone @fallfordiy. Her crafts are beautiful, easy to follow, and budget-friendly; those are my kind of crafts!

5. How do you manage and overcome creative burnout?:

When burnout hits, I recharge by napping or taking a few days away from my office.

6. Have you experienced a fail? How did you work through it and what did you learn?:

Yes! I learn from failure by looking at what didn’t work, adjusting, and trying again- it’s great feedback.

7. What advice would you give to someone who wants to get started?:

Try not to buy supplies just because you think you might need them. Start small and learn what you enjoy working with. I once bought a bunch of yarn to make a blanket before I even knew how to crochet. It sat for years, and when I finally learned, I didn’t even like the yarn anymore—money gone.

8. What’s next for you? (a new project? a new technique? a new venture?):

There’s a surprise in the works that I cannot wait to share! Stay tuned on my socials for updates.
