July 13th is Embrace Your Geekness Day! We couldn’t wait to share a fun hot glue hack for all the crafters and cosplay fans out there. Discover how to create stunning, custom DIY cosplay headpieces entirely made from hot glue. This time, we’re paying tribute to geeky royalty by making a beautiful hot glue crown perfect for costumes and cosplay.
What You’ll Need
- Surebonder mini hot glue gun (we used the H-195F)
- Surebonder metallic gold glue sticks
- Craft gems
- Small hair combs
- Crown template
- 11x14 picture frame with glass
- Small flat screwdriver
- Tweezers
Start by printing out your favorite crown or headpiece template. Place the template inside the picture frame so it’s visible through the glass. Be sure to work at room temperature to avoid glass cracking. Using your Surebonder hot glue gun, carefully outline the template on the glass surface.
Once the outline is done, fill in the crown shape with hot glue, paying attention to the pattern for an even, textured look. Next, attach craft gems to your crown using the gold glue sticks for a regal shine.
To add the hair combs, lay each comb past the edge of the crown and secure it by gluing a line of hot glue along the comb’s length, connecting it to the crown. Do this for both sides.
While the hot glue is still cool, carefully lift the crown off the glass. Use tweezers to gently pry one edge at a time to avoid breaking your masterpiece. The glue bonds well to glass but can be removed with patience and care.
Flip the crown over and use a small amount of gold hot glue to firmly attach the hair combs to each end. Now your custom hot glue crown is ready to wear!
Whether you’re ruling the Renaissance fair or channeling Mario’s princess, this DIY hot glue crown will make you shine as the queen of your cosplay or costume party.
