Meet Poppy

This month, we are thrilled to shine the spotlight on Poppy Lop Cosplay as our Maker of the Month for July 2026!

What began as a creative escape during the pandemic has quickly grown into a passion for designing breathtaking, larger-than-life cosplays filled with intricate details and original artistry. Inspired by nature, fellow makers, and the joy of constantly learning new techniques, Poppy approaches every build with creativity, determination, and a willingness to push her skills even further.

Join us in celebrating Poppy as she champions creativity, kindness, and the idea that we achieve more when makers inspire one another.

Now it's time for a little Q&A

We've asked Poppy to share her story and some insights she's gained along her cosplay journey. Let's get into it!

1. How long have you been creating and how did you get started?

Poppy is a multi-media cosplay craftsman from California. Beginning her cosplay journey in 2021, she started creating as a way to carve out her own corner of joy and beauty during the pandemic. It has now evolved into creating larger-than-life cosplays and bringing her own original designs to life!

2. What is/are your favorite Surebonder product(s):

Poppy is head over heels for the Cosplay Stik and the Full-Size Detail Tip high-temp hot glue gun! These were the first Surebonder products she tried, and you cannot find a single cosplay of hers she has not used them on!

Why Poppy Keeps Coming Back

Every new cosplay starts with the same trusted duo. With the strength to hold complex builds together and the precision needed for intricate work, Cosplay Stik™ Glue Sticks and the Full-Size High Temp Detail Tip Glue Gun have earned a permanent place at Poppy's workbench—helping turn ambitious ideas into convention-ready creations.

3. What inspires you to create? What do you love most and what is the hardest part about the creative process?:

The work of other amazing makers and the beauty of the natural world are where Poppy draws the most inspiration. The most challenging aspect, she says, is deciding when the “too much gene” has finally had enough! A cosplay is never truly finished, but she eagerly awaits when she can bring a new idea to life!

4. Who’s another maker you admire and what do you love about their work?:

Hoku Props are makers who constantly inspire Poppy everyday. "Their use of new techniques and innovative avenues inspires me to think of out-of-the-box ways to bring my builds to life! My favorite part about them is their kindness and genuine joy for making. I have had the honor of meeting them in person a few times, and they are always so excited about new projects and techniques. I can’t help but feel more excited about the world of cosplay and what we can all achieve together!"

5. How do you manage and overcome creative burnout?:

When Poppy feels burned out from creating, she likes to deep clean her space or work on organizing tools and materials she's been putting off. Her biggest source of inspiration, the cosplay community, is also her biggest source of motivation! "Watching the cosplay community create and share projects inspires me to do the same!"

6. Have you experienced a fail? How did you work through it and what did you learn?:

"My first heavily sculpted (and heavy) wig was all but a complete fail! I did not account for the understructure I would need and the wig ended up almost completely collapsing in on itself." Poppy remembers on this day, feeling extremely lost and discouraged, but she was able to add a helmet with fosshape and plumbers tape to the underside, and save her work! She learned firsthand that with wigs, just like armor and fabric arts, you have to start with a strong base first!

7. What advice would you give to someone who wants to get started?:

"I would advise to start slow, and start with the craft that makes you most excited! As you advance in this area, adding another avenue of artistry will come more naturally. Beginning in cosplay is all about teaching yourself how to learn new things!"

8. What’s next for you? (a new project? a new technique? a new venture?):

One of Poppy's most recent designs is being brought to life, a Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail Bunnysuit group, that she cannot wait to share. "I am going to make a bunnysuit for the Holy Hand Grenade! It is so unhinged, but I have the materials picked out already and am so excited!"

Poppy's imagination is always leading to her next ambitious build, and we can't wait to see what she creates next. From intricate cosplay details to bold original designs, her Instagram is full of inspiration for makers who love to learn, experiment, and bring creative ideas to life.
